Dr. Goodman assesses and treats mood and anxiety disorders.

Initial sessions are dedicated to gathering information about you and your situation by identifying your presenting symptoms, understanding your current lifestyle, and getting a sense of your history. Family history and goals for your therapy will also be discussed.

Dr. Goodman will explain Cognitive Behavioural Therapy so that you understand the theory of the therapy and the processes involved.

In the beginning, CBT will be present oriented. You will learn to do Automatic Thought Records (ATR) and to identify thinking errors. An automatic thought is a response that you instinctively generate when confronted with a particular situation. Through the use of the Automatic Thought Records you can track the situations that bring about these thoughts, recognize associated feelings, and begin to understand alternative viewpoints that can allow you to better apply the techniques learned in your CBT sessions. This process will give you the tools and the practice necessary to gain control of negative moods such as depression, anxiety and anger.

In subsequent sessions you will develop an understanding or conceptualization of yourself using your past history and Automatic Thought Records, allowing you to understand your thoughts as they relate to your attitudes, rules and core beliefs.

The therapy is often completed in 12 to 15 sessions, but can extend beyond this as necessary.

All fees for psychotherapy are covered by OHIP.

Third party requests, e.g. insurance reports, are billed individually based on time and complexity.
