The first sessions are given over  to taking the history of your situation, your presenting symptoms, lifestyle situation, past history, family history and goals for therapy will be discussed.

Dr. Goodman assesses and treats mood disorders, anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress disorder and chronic insomnia. 

A discussion of cognitive behavioural therapy by Dr. Goodman will also take place, so that you can understand the theory of the therapy and understand the process. 

Initially, CBT will be present oriented. You will learn to do automatic thought records and Identify thinking errors. This process will give you the tools and practice to gain control of negative moods such as depression, anxiety and anger. Often Dr. Goodman will use behavioural interventions such as behavioural exposures and experiments to treat anxiety disorders. Obsessive complusive disorders maybe addressed with Exeposure, Response, Prevention. 

We will then develop an understanding or conceptualization of yourself using your past history and the thought records so that you can understand your thoughts at different levels  such as attitudes, rules and core beliefs.

The therapy is often completed in 12 to 15 sessions but  can extend beyond this.

All fees for psychotherapy are covered by OHIP.

Third party requests, for example, insurance reports, are billed individually and based on time and complexity.
